Accomplishment Report: PNU-LISAA 2002-2003

Delivered by Consuelo J. Estigoy during the 3rd General Asembly, Nocember 21, 2003, PNU Library Conference Room

Good afternoon everyone.

On behalf of Mr. Model Bautista, the outgoing president of the Association, I am proud to present the accomplishment report for the year 2002-2003, despite some difficulties both human and limited resources, the members of the Board tried their best to serve the Association.

ORGANIZED FOR A AND WORKSHOPS

This year, the Association organized two fora and two workshops. Last February 22, 2003, we held a forum designed especially for the graduating students of our Alma Mater with the PNU LIS Department entitled “Preparing for a Successful Job Application” at the PNU LIS Library. We invited our fellow alumna, Ms. Dorothy Geronimo of the Asian Development Bank as our resource speaker.

On May 8-9, 2003, we held another interesting topic on “Promoting Literacy Through Storytelling” at the National Library as our venue. It aimed to promote library’s resources through storytelling; for teachers and librarians to share their knowledge through stories to stimulate the child’s mind. We invited experts like Prof. Minerva dela Paz, lecturer of UP College of Education, Ms. Roret Sison, librarian of International School, Manila, Dr.Luis Gatmaitan, a physician and writer, and our very own fellow alumni Ms. Zarah Gagatiga, librarian of Xavier School. Also we invited very dynamic storytellers like Ms. Melody of Alitaptap. Though we were a bit disappointed with the attendance, it was a great regret for those who missed the opportunity because the resource speakers were really competent, interesting topics and were beneficial especially for school librarians. Anyway, you better attend next time.

The third activity was a forum on “Systems Librarianship 101” held on August 29, 2003 held at the PNU Auditorium - a very relevant topic in this time of computer age. We invited a very proficient person on technology, Ms. Lourdes David, Director of Rizal Library, Ateneo de Manila University as our resource person.

And the last activity which was held today, a topic on “Proactive Communication Skills for Effective Librarians” with our fellow alumna and ex-officio Ms. Placida Socorro Limpin as resource speaker. It was intended to give you some tips on how to become a speaker and how to write an effective business letter.

The Association will sponsor a participant for the PLAI National Congress and for the fellowship as a show of support to the umbrella organization.

FINANCIAL MATTERS

Our treasurer, Medina de Castro will give you the details of our financial status later. But I’m happy to say that at least we survived despite the limited funds. Anyway, we’re not an income generating association. Some of the participants shouldered their expenses so we tried to lower our registration fees just to make it affordable especially for small libraries. We really did not generate income with the fora so we will think of a fundraising campaign in the future to sustain the needs of the Association and to generate funds for scholarship.

MEMBERSHIP

I’m happy to say that membership is increasing. Although there is a problem in collecting membership fees like in the previous years, but we will try to solve this next year. Maybe we can think other methods or procedures on how to collect our membership dues.

PUBLICATION

This year, we published two issues for the newsletter distributed to our members. We credit it to Antonio Resurreccion, our efficient PRO for producing the issues of the newsletter.

BOARD MEMBERS OF 2002-2003

The above accomplishments will not be successfully fulfilled if not for the diligent and devoted members of the Board. May I call each one of them: Estela Montejo of ADMU, Secretary; Medie de Castro of Sta.Isabel College, Treasurer; Ma. Evelyn P. Nabus of Marikina Public Library, Auditor; Mr. Antonio Resurreccion of Xavier School, PRO; Board of Directors, Gemma Cuna of Claret School, Lorenz Dungca of UPLB, Zarah Gagatiga of Xavier School, Jocelyn L. Ladlad of DLSU, Ofelia Irabon, Marilyn Zafra of Makati Science High School and Ms. Placida Socorro Limpin of Assumption College, Ex-officio.

To the outgoing officers, I want to express my sincerest appreciation for those rewarding and pleasant experiences we have shared.

To our sponsors, friends and fellow alumni, we are still hoping for your continued support.

Sana huwag nating pabayaan ang ating “Association “ dahil nasa atin ang buhay nito. Maraming salamat po!
